Low Carbon Innovation Funding Opportunity

Interested in securing funding for your low-carbon business? Take a look at the Shell Springboard Competition

Shell has launched its annual Springboard competition, inviting early stage, low carbon businesses to apply for a share of £350,000 of funding. The competition aims to find the UK’s next big low-carbon business idea and to help the business reach its full potential. It is a great opportunity to secure significant funding for an innovative idea which tackles climate change.

This year, Shell will award £350,000 of equity-free funding to six winning companies to help grow their low-carbon businesses. Winners will also be able to take advantage of business development feedback from leading experts in the low-carbon sector to help their companies scale up. Since 2005, Shell has provided £4m of equity-free funding to almost 100 innovative low-carbon enterprises in the UK.

Any UK-registered SME can apply, but it is important to remember your application must meet the three core criteria – namely that your business idea:

  • Will reduce carbon emissions;
  • Is commercially viable;
  • Demonstrates one or more innovative elements.

Applications will also be assessed on their broader social and environmental impact.

Last year’s overall winner was Upside Energy for its technology which has created a Virtual Energy Store that can be sold to the grid to help balance supply a demand, therefore making it easier to integrate higher proportions of renewable generation. C-Capture won the competition the year before for its clean energy technology that captures carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from different industrial gas streams.

Applications close on Monday 6th November 2017
