Carbon emissions trends from our latest university carbon progress report have been featured in The Guardian, The Times, and widely across the industry press. The Brite Green University Carbon Progress report provides a robust and independent review of the carbon emissions performance across Higher Education Institutions in England.

Current projections suggest that the sector is set to achieve only a 12% reduction, well behind the 43% reduction target for 2020 set by HEFCE for the sector. The report also showed that more than 75% of universities are projected to not achieve their own objectives

Liberal Democrat Leader Tim Farron said he was “disheartened” with the findings, “especially the fact that some universities are actually now reducing their carbon emission reduction targets.” He fears that under the current Government “organisations of higher education will receive no support to meet their targets”.

To date, Brite Green has engaged with sustainability practitioners from across 70 universities to help institutions understand their carbon performance. As well as a sector report, Brite Green produces a detailed report for each university in England which provides tailored analysis of their emissions trends and performance against peers. National league tables are also available.
