Sustainable materials at the Royal Society

There was a fascinating talk at the Royal Society on Monday by Dr Julian Allwood of the University of Cambridge on sustainable materials. The focus was on improving the effectiveness and/or efficiency of our use of steel, aluminium and cement as a means of reducing GHG emissions. This is particularly important as these are carbon-intensive materials that are fundamental to our civilisation and with no viable substitutes.
